Is KosherShavers
mail-in service really free? TOP
YES! There is absolutely no catch. We are doing
this public service in order to be Mezakeh the
Rabbim. Please spread the word!
Does removing
the lifts damage or decrease my shaver’s effectiveness?
TOP
NO. The shaver will continue to be effective after
removal of the lifters.
Where / which part(s) of my shaver
should I mail KosherShaver?
TOP
This service is only available
for the popular Philips Norelco Lift and Cut shavers. Please only
send us the actual 3 ‘heads’; that’s a
combination of the 3 blades (cutters) together with the 3
combs. You may send as many ‘heads’ as
you wish; just keep each SET (of 3) separately. See illustration. -
Mail To: KOSHERSHAVER 1157 Tiffany Lane - Lakewood, NJ
08701. Please Note: If you
prefer, you can remove the lifts on your own. For our illustrated
step-by-step guide to removing Philips Norelco 'lifts' in just 6 easy steps, Click here.
How should I package my shaver heads?
TOP
We have found that by tightly
wrapping the heads in in a few layers
of plain paper, newspaper, bubble wrap, or any other packaging material
(so that the combs and cutters are protected & don’t
separate) and mailing them in a padded envelope. Remember
to include your name, return mailing address, and evening phone number.
How long will it take for me to get
back my KOSHER shaver heads? TOP
After we receive them, we typically will mail your
KOSHER shaver heads back to you the next day. (Depending on volume)
What about other NON
Philips Norelco
(Remington, Braun, etc.) electric shavers?

KosherShavers
FREE service is ONLY available
for the popular Philips Norelco Lift and Cut shavers. It is important to stress
that ALL foil and 'Microscreen' shavers, (for example: ALL the BRAUN brand shavers, the
ENTIRE Remington MicroScreen line of shavers) as well as
other brand 'FOIL' shavers, may
also raise serious Halachic issues.
Rabbi Avrohom Blumenkrantz ZT'L writes the following in his Pesach sefer "...The new problem being discussed
today is that the micro screen shields are so thin that they on their
own have a cutting ability. We tested it and found out that if you
bring a hair through the holes in the micro screen shield and by just
moving the hair without to much pressure it could cut the hair. This is
true for any brand of Micro Screen shield. It is interesting to note
that Remington Dual Foil Shaver, it is advertised as such:
“Microscreen CUTTING system with two ultra thin flexible
foils and 112 diamond hooked Cutting edges” The problem is
two-fold: 1) the outside screen can cut without the scissors
action and 2) both blades are cutting and based on what we
wrote above it is not good." SEE BELOW FOR OTHER HALACHIC OPINIONS
'Out-Of-The-Box' Shavers:
****UPDATE: NOVEMBER
2012 / CHESVHAN 5773****
NORELCO NOW MAKES
TRIPLE HEAD ROTARY SHAVERS WITHOUT LIFTS!!
GREAT NEWS: Norelco Has
recently stated making shavers without "lifts", that are KOSHER TO
USE STRAIGHT OUT OF THE BOX!! (with the Psak of
Harav
Hagoan R' Dovid Feinstein Shlit”a) and DO NOT NEED TO BE
"KOSHERED"
The rule of thumb is:
any Shaver that the outside of the head/comb it says either:
COMFORTCUT or
CLOSECUT (click
on for a picture) is considered "kosher"
out of the box!
We recommend the Norelco 6945XL model
shaver, as the best Norelco "Kosher Shaver" available on the market
as of this posting.
VERY IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING THE
NEW "KOSHER" NORELCO SHAVERS: Although any shaver having the
"COMFORTCUT" or
"CLOSECUT" printed on the head is OK to use out of
the box, PLEASE BEWARE; when purchasing REPLACEMENT HEADS for these
shavers; that the words "Comfortcut" or Closecut" is printed on the
replacement head as well.
(Previous
Update from FEB. 2011 / ADAR I 5771)
After much advanced research &
consultation with leading
Poskim, we have
clarified the Rabonims positions on today’s shavers in Halacha.
We have compiled, and simplified the various “psokim”
in regard to today’s electric shavers, & present our finding below.
AS
WITH ALL MATTERS OF HALACHA, ESPECIALLY SHAVING WHICH IS A TORAH
PROHIBITION FOR EACH HAIR, PLEASE CONSULT YOUR ROV FOR A FINAL “PSAK”.
●
Harav
Hagoan R' Dovid Feinstein Shlit”a (eldest son of
Harav Hagoan
Rav Moshe ZT”L) rules that the BEST option for shaving today is
to use a Philips Norelco Lift & Cut shavers ONLY AFTER REMOVAL OF
THE LIFTS (click here for more info)
Rav Dovid is of the opinion NOT to use any other shaver, including
the Remington rotary shavers & the Braun Microscreen (foil) shavers.
●
Harav
Yisroel Belsky Shlit”a also permits the Philips Norelco Lift &
Cut shavers (ONLY WITH THE LIFTS REMOVED), however Rav Belsky ALSO
permits use of the Remington triple head -ROTARY shavers out of the
box.
Rav Belsky is opinion NOT to use any other shaver, including the
Remington microscreen (foil) & the Braun Microscreen (foil) shavers.
●
Harav Moshe
Heinaman Shlit”a (Star K / Baltimore) DOES permit* the use of
the BRAUN microscreen (foil) shavers for use straight out of the
box. However, this heter (leniency) does NOT include the Remington
Microscreen (foil) shavers.
* Please note: Rav Heinaman is of the
opinion that the most preferred method of shaving is using a
trimmer, as per the psak (Halachic verdict) of his rebbi,
Hagoan Reb
Ahron Kotler ZT”L
Why
halachicly
do I need to remove my 'lifts'?
TOP
Recent
technology has presented problems with the use of many current electric
shavers. Although many great Poskim, beginning with the Chofetz Chaim
zt'l prohibited modern shavers, most of the American frum community
that shaved relied upon the opinion (heter) of Harav
Hagaon R’ Moshe Feinstein zt'l. Reb Moshe
permitted many of the shavers with the exception of specific shavers
that used blades that he determined were too sharp and were thus
prohibited. Today, according to many Rabbonim, many electric shavers
utilize sharper blades than in the past, thereby raising serious
halachic shailos. It is well known, for example, that Harav
Hagaon R’ Dovid Feinstein shlita feels
that even according to the opinion of his father zt'l, many modern
shavers should not be used. Rav Dovid Feinstein
has advised that, in his opinion, there is no widely available shaver
that can be purchased and used as-is. In his opinion,
(which is also the opinion of many other
Poskim) the only widely available shaver that is
still permitted is the Philips Norelco Lift & Cut
model shavers
but only after you remove
the lifts. It’s important to note that ALL
current Philips Norelco triple head shavers (regardless of the model) in stores
today use the lift & cut technology. There are other models
such as the Philips Norelco Rota 2 shaver (that does not use “Lift
& Cut” technology) that he permitted, but the model
has been discontinued. It is important to stress that all
foil and screen shavers may also raise halachic issues. As
with all shailos, your Rav must be consulted.
If your Rav is of the opinion that removing the lifts will render you
Philips Norelco Lift & Cut shaver 'KOSHER' - we're here to help - at no
charge!
